Abstract

It has been argued that local political leadership has become more and more important in a time when a shift from government to governance is taking place and ‘local state’-society relations have to be created or newly constructed. The same is true in the context of ‘glocalisation’ and Europeanisation in which local political leaders can play a particular role to represent local interests and to act as interest mediators in a multi-level system.
