Abstract

New Web 2.0 technologies, the Internet of Things and big data may impact dramatically on local politics and administration and the citizens’ role therein. The empirical evidence on such impacts is however scarce. This panel invites papers exploring the impact of technological changes on the quality of governance in cities and communities. Here quality of governance can refer to the effectiveness and efficiency of municipalities, but also to democratic values like transparency and participation, responsiveness, among others.
